My notifications
The notifications enable you to monitor alerts and system events in Snow License Manager, such as added licenses, deleted computers, updated agreements, or agreements nearing their expiration dates.
Your configured email notifications are sent per category and action. This means that if you have one notification for added agreements and one for updated agreements, you will receive one email listing all the added agreements and one listing all the updated agreements. Depending on the activity in your system, you might also receive multiple notifications per day for each category and action.
The notifications will be sent only once so make sure to take appropriate action, when needed.
To ensure that your notifications are concise and actionable, see Known limitations and best practice recommendations.
SMTP settings must be activated in Snow MACC to enable sending of e-mails.

Known limitations and best practice recommendations
To ensure that your notifications are concise and actionable, consider the following known limitations and best practice recommendations.
Known limitations
The Notification Delivery Service has the following known limitations:
-
No automatic paging
The Notification Delivery Service does not automatically split large result sets into multiple notifications, or provide summary notifications. All items that match the notification criteria are included in one single notification. -
Large result sets without filtering
If the notification criteria are left unfiltered, the Notification Delivery Service may attempt to process very large result sets. This can affect available memory and service stability, and may lead to slow response times. In email systems that enforce a maximum message size, large notifications may be rejected, truncated, or rendered unreadable. The recipients may then receive emails that are too large to be useful or actionable.
Recommendations
Consider the following best practice recommendations for your notifications:
-
Always apply filtering criteria
To limit the number of items returned, define specific filtering criteria for each notification. For example, filter by application, license type, expiration date range, or other relevant fields. This will reduce memory and CPU usage, and ensures that notifications are concise and actionable. Also, it minimizes risk of email delivery failures and database disruptions. -
Split the notifications
For a notification that uses filtering, but still contains many items, you can split it into multiple notifications with different filter values, for example, by application, region, or license type. This will distribute the load and improve manageability. -
Review regularly
Ensure that your notification definitions are relevant and correctly targeted by reviewing them regularly. -
Monitor system performance
Monitor the Notification Delivery Service for signs of performance degradation, memory pressure, or failed notifications. Adjust the filtering and scheduling of your notifications, as needed.
